Safety Tips for teens/Parents 1.I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents permission. 2.I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable. 3.Never meet people you met on-line alone, and do not tell people where you will be or what you will be doing, especially in a chat room where you may be providing that information to someone you did not intend to meet. 4.I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents. 5.Never reply to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or scared. Just click the user icon and select �Ignore User� (You will not see or hear the user), �Kick� (Kicks the user out for 1 hour), or �Ban� (The user can not contact you again). 6.I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission. 7.I will not give out my Internet password to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents. 8.I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or jeopardize my family s privacy 9.I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law. 10.I will help my parents understand how to have fun and learn things online and teach them things about the Internet, computers and other technology. 11.Be skeptical of what other members tell you such as who they say they are. The �16 year old boy� who sounds cute in the chat room could easily be a creepy older man with bad intentions, or even an undercover police officer. 12.If you find a suspicious user, remember or save the user name, date/time, chat conversation ,mail and screenshot of the user, contact us right away. TIPS FOR PARENTS Unitymix offers following tips to begin a dialogue about safe Web practices: 1. Start a Conversation * Talk to your kids about why they use Unitymix, how they communicate with others, and how they represent themselves online. Recognize the importance of social networking in their daily lives, similar to that of cell phones, email, or instant messenger, and express an interest in understanding the role it plays. * Ask them why they like being online and who they hang out with online. Ask them to show you their friends, what they are listening to, and what interests them within the community. 2. Report Inappropriate Behavior * Harassment, hate speech, and inappropriate content all violate the Unitymix Terms of Use and should be reported. If your kids encounter inappropriate behavior, they should report it to you, the authorities and/or Unitymix, as the situation merits. To report a problem, go to Contact Unitymix and select "Reporting Abuse." 3. Talk About Unitymix and the Internet * Unitymix, like the rest of the online world, is a public space. Members shouldn't post anything they wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., phone number, address, IM screen name, or specific whereabouts). Tell your teens they should avoid posting anything that would make it easy for a stranger to find them, such as their local hangouts. * Remind them not to post anything that could embarrass them in the future or expose them to danger. Although Unitymix is public, teens sometimes forget that the information and photos they post are accessible to others. 4. Remind Teens to Be Cautious * Just as in the offline world, people aren't always who they say they are. Remind your teens to be careful about adding strangers to their friends list. It's fun to connect with new Unitymix friends from all over the world, but members should be cautious when communicating with people they don't know. * Encourage teens to be themselves, but to exercise the same basic safety principles they do in the physical world. They wouldn't chat with a stranger at the mall or give someone they don't know their cell phone number. Remind them that reckless online behavior can be just as dangerous. * They should talk to you if they want to meet an online friend in person, and if you think it's safe, any meeting should take place in public, with friends or a trusted adult present.
