A day cruise in Alleppey is one of the best ways to explore the enchanting backwaters of Kerala in a short yet fulfilling experience. Known as the “Venice of the East,” Alleppey is famous for its network of canals, lagoons, and lakes lined with coconut palms and lush paddy fields. A day cruise usually takes place on a traditional houseboat or shikara, allowing travelers to relax while floating gently through the calm waters.

The cruise often lasts between 4 to 6 hours, typically starting late in the morning and ending by evening. During the journey, guests can enjoy stunning views of village life—fishermen casting nets, women engaged in coir-making, children playing along the banks, and migratory birds flying over the lagoons. Many day cruise packages also include authentic Kerala meals served onboard, prepared with fresh local ingredients.
